Description
Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Souvenir Card B101F, the Cherry Blossom print created for the 125th Anniversary of the Bureau which was then overprinted for the Great Eastern Numismatic Association Convention GENA 87.The card shows a new vignette of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing building, as seen from across the Tidal Basin in front of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. The cherry trees along the walk surrounding the water in bloom, and the result is a very attractive image.
Thomas Hipschen did the engraving on this piece, which is printed in a combination of offset and intaglio.
Only one thousand of the Cherry Blossom cards were overprinted with gold embossing for the GENA show. BEP figures indicate that 996 of these were sold.
The embossing specific to this show appears in the second scan.
This card was purchased at the GENA show and cancelled on its day of issue with the pictorial show postmark.
The card is in excellent condition.
