    Description

Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Souvenir Card B101A, the special Cherry Blossom print created for the 125th Anniversary of the Bureau which was then overprinted for the Florida United Numismatists show FUN 1987.
The card shows a new vignette of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing building, as seen from across the Tidal Basin in front of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C.  The cherry trees along the walk surrounding the water in bloom, and the result is a very attractive image.
Thomas Hipschen did the engraving on this piece, which is printed in a combination of offset and intaglio.
Only one thousand of the Cherry Blossom cards were overprinted with a blind embossing for the FUN show.  BEP figures indicate that 950 were sold.
This card was purchased at the FUN show and cancelled on its day of issue with the pictorial show postmark.
Note:  The blind embossing does not show up well in the scan.  For later cards in the series, the Bureau modified the overprint and how it was applied to achieve a more visible result.
The card is in excellent condition.
